Egypt confirms 24 swine flu deaths

Baku-APA. Egypt confirmed Tuesday 24 death cases of A/H1N1 virus, known as swine flu, since the beginning of December, the Egyptian Health Ministry said in a statement, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The ministry has detected 273 cases since Oct. 1 with 195 diagnosed since Dec. 1, and 24 of them have died," Health Minister Maha al-Rabat said in the statement, denying the presence of any bird flu cases since last April.

A/H1N1 has become so common that it has been categorized under the seasonal influenza by the World Health Organization, according to the statement.

Former Health Minister Mohamed Awad Tag-Eddin said at a press conference on Tuesday that the virus is growing increasingly active in the northern Hemisphere including Egypt.
