Bomb explosion in Zanzibar kills one, injures 4

Baku-APA.Police in Zanzibar in cooperation with security agencies are carrying an investigation following a bomb explosion in the heart of Zanzibar town on Friday, killing one person and injuring four others, an official said on Saturday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

In a statement to journalists, Zanzibar Deputy Director of Public Investigation Yusssuf Ilembo said the incident happened in Darajani vehicle parking area on Friday evening.

He pledged for the public to cooperate with police by delivering information which may lead to arrest of the culprits involved in the incident.

Ilembo named the victim as Mohd Khatib Mkombalaguha and the injured are receiving treatment at Mnazimmoja general hospital.

Pieces of tape were discovered at the scene of the incident believed to have been used for the bomb that have also caused damage to two cars.

"Police has staged full petrol and manhunt for those involved and we urge the public to remain calm and continue with their normal activities," he said.

This is the first time for such incident to occur in Zanzibar, bringing great concern and fear to the public.
