Baku-APA. An army officer was killed on Saturday in an explosion targeting seven military vehicles in Egypt's North Sinai governorate, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The officer was killed and three civilians were wounded in the blast on the international highway of Sheikh Zuweid city, the source said, noting the military vehicles including two armored ones.
On Thursday, the Egyptian army killed a terrorist while he was planting an explosive device near Sheikh Zuweid hospital. Meanwhile, the army destroyed five tunnels that connect Egypt's Rafah city with the Palestinian Gaza Strip and arrested 13 Jihadist suspects.
Security conditions have been deteriorating in Sinai since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi by the army in July, as hardline militants take the peninsula as a stronghold for staging recurrent attacks against army and police premises.
