Baku-APA. At least 20 people were killed following an explosion and sporadic shootings that rocked the premises of the Federal College of Education in northwest Nigeria's Kano State on Wednesday afternoon, said sources at two state-run hospitals administering treatment to victims, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Abu Ibrahim, a resident, told a Xinhua reporter via telephone that the pandemonium has forced students to seek refuge outside the school premises and shop owners closed business for safety.
A local security officer said a detachment of mobile policemen had been deployed to put the situation under control and cordon off the area.
It is unclear if Boko Haram, a sect which has proved to be a major security threat in the West African country, was behind the attack.
