Baku-APA. At least 16 members of the Moroccan Royal Guard (the guard of honor accompanying the Moroccan monarch) were killed and 42 others wounded in a traffic accident in the early hours of Saturday in northern Morocco, an official source told Xinhua, APA reports.
The accident took place at about 4:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) on Saturday between the coastal towns of Tetouan and Al Hoceima, after a bus carrying the guard members veered off due to excessive speed and overturned, said the source.
Later, official news agency MAP reported that the driver lost control of the bus in a zig turn and the bus fell into a 200-meter- deep valley from the Jebha road in an area known for its hard way.
The wounded, among which eight were in serious conditions, and the bodies of the dead were transferred to the Hospital of Al Hoceima.
The bus was among a convoy travelling from Tetouan to Al Hoceima to prepare for a visit of King Mohammed VI to the region in the coming days.
