Baku-APA. At least 11 people were killed in a fresh attack perpetrated by suspected Boko Haram members in Damboa Town of Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, sources said on Friday, APA rpoerts quoting Xinhua.

Although the attack occurred on Thursday, the news reached the media on Friday through sources including residents, a state legislator and military operatives. Residents of the town alleged that foreigners, who communicated in Arabic language and were mostly fair in complexion, were among the attackers.

The residents said at least 11 dead bodies were recovered after the attack.

A legislator, Ayamu Lawan Gwasha, representing Damboa Constituency at the Borno State House of Assembly, told a Xinhua reporter that his people were still living in perpetual fear on Friday.

"We expressed our fear to the deputy governor of Borno State, Zanna Umar Mustapha, who was also proactive in sharing the information with Governor Kashim Shetttima. Relevant security authorities were also alerted. I think this has helped in reducing the magnitude of the attack for now," he said.

Efforts to reach Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, spokesperson of the military-led Joint Task Force (JTF), for clarity on the incident proved abortive but a top military officer also confirmed the attack to Xinhua.

The military source said a prompt intervention by security forces scared away the attackers.

"More troops have been dispatched to the area to curtail further attacks by the insurgents. We learnt they sneaked into the bush leading to parts of Yobe and Gombe states. For sure, they will not escape, we shall get them," the source added.

Damboa Town is located in the southern part of Borno State, known as the base of the Boko Haram sect which launched its insurgency in Nigeria since 2009.

A total of 50 people were killed last Sunday when suspected sect members launched an attack on Konduga Community, located miles away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
