Baku-APA. A group of unknown armed assailants launched an overnight attack on Tunisia's national guard garrison near the town of El Kef in the west of the country, no casualties were reported among the guards, APA reports quoting TAP News Agency.
The gunmen armed with automatic machine guns immediately fled the scene after the shoot out.
According to a security source, the search operation is ongoing.
Over the past months, the area of El Kef has witnessed a series of Islamic militant activities as at least 20 people have been arrested in the region.
Also, a number of national guards and army officers were injured by landmine blasts after they discovered a strategic hideout allegedly built by the militants near the top of the Mountain Chaambi. Mine clearing operations are underway to catch the group of about 50 militants.
