Biogenic substances exceed maximum permissible concentration in the Kura River in the last ten-day of September

Baku - APA. National Environmental Monitoring Department of the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources conducted next monitoring for the third ten-day of September to study the level of pollution of the Kura and Araz transboundary rivers and their branches, the ministry’s press service told APA. Compared with the second ten-day of September, the water flow in the Kura River in the third ten-day of September rose by 4 cbm/sec and made up 117 cbm/sec. The monitoring revealed that biogenic substances exceed the maximum permissible concentration in the Kura River as a result of pollution of the water with industrial and domestic wastes in Georgia and Armenia. Phenols and copper compounds in composition of water exceeded MPC.

Phenol exceeded MPC by 4 times , copper compounds double in the Shikhli-2 area, phenols exceeded MPC by 4 times and copper compounds by 3 times in the Aghstafachay River, phenols and copper compounds exceeded MPC by 3 and 2 times respectively in the Aghstafachay Reservoir. According to the monitoring, the water flow in the Araz River, which borders on Armenia, made up 3,21 cbm/sec. Phenols and copper compounds exceeded MPC by 3 and 3 times in Horadiz area of the River, copper compounds and phenols exceeded MPC by 3 times in Shahseven I, phenols exceeded MPC by 3, copper compounds exceeded MPC by 2 times in Bahramtapa. Oxygen concentrations in equilibrium with the air range from about 5.35 mg/liter to 6.80 mg/liter.
