Results of monitoring of Kura and Araz rivers announced

Baku – APA. National Environmental Monitoring Department of the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources conducted monitoring for the third ten-day of June to study the level of pollution of the Kura and Araz Rivers and their branches, the ministry’s press service told APA. Compared with the second ten-day of April, the flow rate in the Kura River in the third ten-day of June increased by 48 cbm/sec and made up 480 cbm/sec.
The monitoring revealed that biogenic substances exceed the maximum permissible concentration in the Kura River as a result of pollution of the water with industrial and domestic wastes in Georgia and Armenia. Phenol pollution and copper compounds exceed 4 times in the Shikhli-2 area, phenols exceeded MPC by 3 times and copper compounds by 2 times in the Aghstafachay River, phenols and copper compounds exceeded MPC by 3 times respectively in the Aghstafachay Reservoir.
According to the monitoring, the flow rate in the Araz River, which borders on Armenia, made up 348 cbm/sec. Phenols and copper compounds exceeded MPC by 4 and 3 times respectively in Horadiz area of the River, copper compounds and phenols exceeded MPC by 3 times in Shahseven I, copper compounds exceeded MPC and phenols by 2 times in Bahramtapa.
Oxygen concentrations in equilibrium with the air range from about 6.40 mg/liter to 6.60 mg/liter.
