This is their tenth report. I regard this year’s report as pressure on Azerbaijan, political position,” chairperson of the Azerbaijani parliament’s committee for human rights Rabiyyat Aslanova told APA while commenting on the annual report on human trafficking issued by the Department of State.

Rabiyyat Aslanova says according to the report, the countries are placed onto three tiers. The countries that are strengthening their legislative basis, have laws able to prevent human trafficking, national action plan in this field fall under Tier 1.
The countries that have not made improvement in this field fall under Tier 2. “The countries that have weak legislative basis, where the number of the victims of trafficking is increasing, there is no political will to solve the problem, fall under Tier 2. The countries, where the situation is very grievous fall under Tier 3.
Rabiyyat Aslanova said Azerbaijan falls under Tier 2.
“According to the report, Azerbaijan is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to trafficking in persons. This is absolutely wrong. There is one moment here, countries ranked Tier 2 for two consecutive years, will be ranked Tier 3 the next year. And after this, some sanctions are applied against this state. This sanction is applied not by humanitarian, but by some financial organizations, as well as by IMF. They have prepared report on 177 states. Majority of these countries have protested this report. One can refute each sentence of the part related to Azerbaijan. Their claims are absurd and dilettantish. There are big enough mistakes in the report prepared professionally. They do not understand that if the rights of one migrant have been violated in any country, it is the indicator of the situation in that country. The rights of migrants are protected in Azerbaijan”.

Committee chairperson noted that great majority of the reports prepared by the US Department of State were nonobjective: “Or they speak that we are addicts, or they call our men as, or make our women victims of human trafficking…It is a humiliating position, diplomatic tool used against Azerbaijan. They have not other pressure chances against Azerbaijan. I can refute each sentence of the report. For example, it was noted in the report that Azerbaijan’s enclave - Nakhchivan played transit point for women taken to Turkey for sexual exploitation. Whereas, Nakhchivan is not an enclave, it is an exclave. They do not the difference of these two words. We know that Azerbaijan is a transit country. But we can not touch the rights of people going to another country through Azerbaijan.
