The committee chairman said Moscow organized actions against Armenians in Baku and Sumgayit on January 13-14, 1990. “Armenian pogroms were organized by Moscow. Azerbaijanis helped Armenians to be saved during those events. This is a weighty fact. But Armenians took part in killing of Azerbaijanis during January 20 eventsâ€.

“Laying flowers on the graves of the martyrs is not enough,†he said.
Mahmudov said conferring Nobel Prize on Mikhail Gorbachov, who committed January 20 happenings, was a double standard of the world.
“The opening of an Orthodox church by one of the co-chairs of OSCER Minsk Group in Karabakh is also an example of double standards,†he said.
Episcope of Baku and Caspian Eparchy Father Alexander said January 20 was one of the most historical days of Azerbaijani people.
Head of Mountain Jews Religious Community Semyon Ikhilov said Azerbaijani people could never be defeated. Commenting on the reports that Armenians had a role in the January 20 happenings, Ikhilov said:
“At that time Armenians held high posts in Azerbaijan. What did they lack that they participated in such acts,†he said.
The participants appealed to speaker of the parliament Ogtay Asadov. The appeal signed by Sheikh-ul-islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh will be held to the parliament. It says that January 20 tragedy is a big crime against Azerbaijani people.
“As the author of the open appeal revealing the executioner of the empire Mikhail Gorbachov, who led this crime, this is my mission before the martyrs of January 20 to expose the perpetrators of the tragedy. Taking all this into account, I ask you, as the body defending the legal interests of the Azerbaijani citizens, to sue these executioners in the International Court of Justice. The world community must be informed about the essence of their actions basing on the evidences, documents, testimonies of witnesses. I am sure that Azerbaijani parliament will do its best for the sake of justice to punish the perpetrators.â€
