President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the Khojaly Genocide Memorial in the city of Khojaly on November 8, APA reports.
The presidents of Azerbaijan and Türkiye laid wreaths at the Memorial.
During the tour of the complex, it was noted that the Khojaly Genocide Memorial was established in accordance with an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev in February 2025, with the aim of perpetuating the memory of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy, conveying historical truths to future generations, and preserving national memory. The project was implemented based on a concept developed by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The Memorial consists of four sections. An exhibition hall commemorating the victims of the Khojaly genocide has been established in the first two sections.
The installation titled "The Face of Tragedy," presented in the exhibition, depicts civilians killed during the genocide and families that were destroyed.
The exhibition dedicated to the Khojaly genocide presents the historical roots of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, the policy of occupation, and the consequences of the actions committed by Armenian terrorists on Azerbaijani lands through documents, maps, and facts. It displays information about the history of Khojaly, the chronology of the conflict, the genocide, and the political and legal assessment of the genocide given by National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
A model of Khojaly in the exhibition hall provides interactive information about the horrors experienced on the day of the tragedy.
The second exhibition hall presents the fate of eight families completely destroyed during the tragedy, as well as the lives and dreams cut short in a single night as a result of the crime, through an artificial intelligence-generated video.
The exhibition hall highlights President Ilham Aliyev's consistent policy aimed at securing international recognition of the truths about Khojaly, the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, under the initiative and leadership of its President Mehriban Aliyeva, to preserve the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide and restore justice, as well as the work carried out within the framework of the international "Justice for Khojaly!" campaign launched at the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Models of monuments erected in several countries in memory of the victims of the genocide as part of the international "Justice for Khojaly!" campaign are also displayed here.
The exhibition concludes with information about the 44-day Patriotic War and the restoration of state sovereignty, as well as the ideas of the "Great Return" and "Devastated Khojaly Will Rise Again."
