Prisoners of Gobustan jail go on mass hunger strike

Baku. Ramil Mammadli-APA. Prisoners went on mass hunger strike in Gobustan jail of Penitentiary Service of Justice Ministry, Muslimat Rzakhanova, mother of lifer Shakir Rzakhanov and Chairman of Committee of Lifersâ€™ Relatives told APA.
Rzakhanova said that prisoners went on hunger strike on February 21.
â€œUnethical behavior with inmates, tortures, bad quality of meals caused it. The inmates demanded to stop problem and hold meeting with Eldar Zeynalov, Chairman of Federation of Human Rights Protection Organizations and Sahib Mammadov, coordinator of Penitentiary System Control Committee under Justice Ministry,â€ she said.
To her, the inmates did not want to meet Elchin Behbudov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Committee against Tortures and Chingiz Ganizadeh, Chairman of Committee of Democracy and Human Rights.
Penitentiary Service did not confirm the information.
â€œWe have contacted with Gobustan jail on the issue. The prisoners did not go on hunger strike,â€ press service said.
