Hearing on Ramil Usubov’s lawsuit against Leila Yunus to begin on March 2

Baku. Ramil Mammadli–APA. Director of Peace and Democracy Institute Leila Yunus held a press conference on Friday on the Interior Minister Ramil Usubov’s lawsuit against her. Leila Yunus said judge of the Yasamal District Court Ragib Gurbanov sent her a notification on February 13, informing that the court preparation meeting will be held on March 2. Yunus said the Interior Minister accused her in the slandering against the police. The Human Rights Defender said she didn’t agree with the lawsuit and informed the international organizations about that. “Representatives of the diplomatic corpse in Azerbaijan are also expected to attend the court hearing”. She said many people intended to attend the hearing, but the court authorities decided to hold the hearing in the small room. She sent letters to the chairman of Yasamal District Court Aladdin Jafarov and Judge Ragib Gurbanov and protested this decision.

Nasimi District Court postponed hearing on the Interior Minister Ramil Usubov’s lawsuit against Human Rights Defender Leila Yunus. The hearing was postponed because defendant gave a petition that existed complaint on the minister’s claim was not correctly addressed. The defendant part demanded to hold open hearings in the court of Yasamal District where Yunus lives.

Interior Minister Ramil Usubov raised lawsuit against Leila Yunus claiming that she slandered the Interior Ministry in her interview with Day.az damaging the police’s working character. The minister demands Yunus to deny her words, to apologize to the ministry and to compensate the moral damage with 100 000 AZN.
