ICRC statement on Gobustan jail submitted to Penitentiary Service leadership

Baku-APA. Deputy Chief of Justice Ministryâ€™s Penitentiary Service Hussein Alikhanov received Defense Program Coordinator of ICRC, Press Service of Penitentiary Service told APA that ICRC representative had submitted the statement on visits to Gobustan jail on November 17-24 and December 2. The meeting debated the statement. The discussions covered behavior with prisoners, their detention condition, medical service and provision of jail with professional personnel.
Alikhanov provided information about main directions of recent reforms, meeting the detention condition of defendants and prisoners with international norms, construction of new detention facilities in regions, protection of prisonersâ€™ health, and public participation in reformation of inmates.
ICRC representative stressed the importance of improvement of cooperation between ICRC and Penitentiary Service.
Several department chiefs of Penitentiary Service participated in the meeting.
