97 300 applications are pending before the European Court

Baku–APA. The European Court of Human Rights issued its annual report for 2008, containing the information about the development of the European Human Rights Convention System and compositions of the European Court of Human Rights, information service of the Legal Education Society told APA. The report also covered speeches given by the President of the European Court of Human Rights and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. According to the statistical reports, by the end of 2008 year, 97 300 allocated applications were pending before the Court. The highest number of judgments, more than 50 percent, concerned Russia, Turkey, Romania and Ukraine. The European Court dealt with 45 000 applications until 1998 (in the period of the Court’s activity), but in 2008, it dealt with an unprecedented number, nearly 50 000 in total.
