Former Deputy Chief of Gobustan jail gives testimony in trial of radical religious group

Baku. Ramil Mammadli-APA. The hearing on the case of former officer of Azerbaijani Army Kamran Asadov and 19 others continued in the Military Court of Grave Crimes. APA reports that judge Islam Neymanov presided over the process.
Shahkishi Bagirov, Department Chief of Medical Unit of Justice Ministry gave testimony in the court hearing. Bagirov noted that he worked as deputy chief of Gobustan jail in 2007 and knew defendant Ilkin Ismayilov. He spoke about the telephone conversation between Kamran Asadov and Ilkin Ismayilov in jail in 2007. Bagirov said the mobile phone had been found in the cell, where Ismayilov was held. The prisoner, who owned the phone, was punished. He said he was unaware of the meeting held between Kamran Asadov and Ilkin Ismayilov in Gobustan jail.
Giving testimonies Gobustan jail warden Mubariz Zeynalov clarified Kamran Asadov’s visiting prisoner Anar Nurlu in the jail. He said Kamran Asadov introduced himself as Anar Nurlu’s relative and showed his ID card.
Zeynalov also gave information about the procedures for meeting in the jail and noted that he was unaware of the crime-related talks between the above-mentioned persons.
Kamran Asadov said he had shown officer card, not ID card and delivered about 10kg products and other things to Anar Nurlu. Kamran Asadov said he left the military unit illegally to come to Baku. Judge Neymanov said the testimonies of the witnesses, who missed the hearing showing reasons, would be announced in the process.
Following this, Ismayilov addressed the court and public prosecutor and said he did not agree to the criminal code launched about him. The defendants said he had not agreed with Asadov to commit a crime.
Defendant Yashar Maharramov also addressed the public prosecutor and asked to change the part of the indictment related to him and his brother Shahriyar Maharramov. He said they were innocent.
The hearing will continue in the second half of the day.
Kamran Asadov, Bakhtiyar Orujov, Farid Jabbarov, Elshan Mammadov, Kamran Babayev, Samir Mehbaliyev, Terlan Karimov, Edgar Aliyev, Ramil Karimov, Shirvani Babayev, Samir Aliyev, Yalchin Maharramov, Orkhan Alizadeh, Hajibala Huseynov, Azer Ibadov, Shahriyar Maharramov, Ramin Jalilov, Rovshan Abdulaliyev, Ilkin Ismayilov and Vugar Aliyev are accused of setting up a radical religious group, attempting to start military struggle, attacking on LUKoil petrol station in Baku, preparing terror attack on the U.S. and UK embassies in Azerbaijan.
