Baku-APA. Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry has today held a board meeting on the results of the work done for combating crimes, ensuring public order and public safety last year and on the future tasks. The ministry’s press service told APA that Interior Minister Colonel-General Ramil Usubov made a report on the outcomes of the year.
Ramil Usubov said 21,692 crimes were recorded in the reporting year. 89 percent (18,533) of them were less grave crimes not posing serious public threat, 11 percent (2266) of them were grave crimes. Premeditated murders reduced by 12.6 percent, deliberate bodily harm 8.5 percent, rape 26.5 percent, threats 18 percent, carjack 33.3 percent and hooliganism by 3.8 percent.
The total number of the crimes increased by 15.1 percent due to 1398 crimes not posing serious public threat and 1014 less grave crimes. 369 more crimes related to illicit drug turnover, human trafficking and swindling, extra 174 crimes (including 20 premeditated murders, 9 brigandage, 11 plundering, 43 robbery) were solved.
The minister said 82.2 percent of the crimes had been solved. Moreover, 97.7 percent of the crimes against personality and all banditry related crimes were solved.
The participants of 200 crimes, including 15 premeditated murders and attempted murder, 24 deliberate bodily harm, 13 brigandage, 6 plundering, 3 kidnapping and 84 carjacking crimes were immediately detained last year.
14132 people were brought to justice for the different crimes. 2963 locally- and internationally-wanted persons, including 152 in CIS and other foreign countries, were detained. 23 murder, 135 robbery, 16 racket, 227 grave crime and 30 organized crime groups were neutralized.
1433 illegal arms were confiscated and it led 28 percent reducing the arm-used crimes.
Usubov said trafficking of 651 kg of narcotic drugs was prevented. Nearly 408 tons of green narcotics were liquidated as a result of the “Khash-Khash 2008” operational-preventive measures.
312 people were brought in justice for human trafficking, which exceeds 2007 results for 39.2 percent.
Number of road accidents and its victims reduced in compare with 2007 for nearly 4-5 percent. 955 drivers were punished for the auto-hooliganism.
Chief of the law-enforcement department of the President’s Office Fuad Alasgarov positively valued the activity of interior bodies.
Interior Minister of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Ahmad Ahmadov, Chief of the Baku City Police Office Rafig Abbasov, Chief of the Interior Ministry’s Investigative Office Sarvar Mehraliyev, Chief of the Anti-Drug Office Hazi Aslanov, Chief of the Staff Office Mehman Mehmanov, Chief of the Ganja Police Office Rasim Musayev, Chief of the Sumgayit Police Office Mehdi Humbatov and others spoke about the works done during the reporting period.
