Haji Gamet Suleymanov gives testimony in trial of radical religious group

APA reports that judge Islam Neymanov presided over the process. The hearing was closed in the first half of the day as servicemen were interrogated.
Head of Narimanov District Believers Religious Community Haji Gamet Suleymanov gave testimony in the second half of the day. He said he had no links to the defendants.
“Generally, I have divergence of opinion with these persons,” he said.
Head of the community also said what he had heard of Hajibala Huseynov.
“We disagree with these Muslims on the issue on government. We say that we should obey the law, if the law where we live does not oppose to Islam. We should refrain from the laws opposing Islam,” he said.
Judges, public prosecutor and defendants put questions to Gamet Suleymanov. Suleymanov said the defendants’ actions contradicted Islam.
“There is jihad in Islam. But it has conditions. Leader, head of state should pass a decision on jihad if necessary. Anyone wants to make jihad should wait for the start of the military operations in Karabakh,” he said.
Gamet Suleymanov also said that non-Muslims are giaours. But they should be treated normally.

Taxi driver Elnur Gurbanov, who brought the defendants from Ismayilli to Baku in his car, Elchin Evezov, who filmed religious weddings in Sumgayit and Zaman Piriyev, aka Omar gave testimonies. Zaman Piriyev said he knew Hajibala Huseynov, he was a believer. Piriyev said he had been detained for his faith. Judges and public prosecutor objected to the witness. Prosecutor Oruj Jalilov accused some of the defendants of populism.
Jail warden Jumshud Khankishiyev and chief of jail #13 Ilgar Sadigov gave testimonies.
Following this, the judge read the telegram that said that deputy head of Narimanov District Believers Religious Community Alikhan Musayev missed the hearing because of his health problems.
The hearing will continue on February 3.
Kamran Asadov, Bakhtiyar Orujov, Farid Jabbarov, Elshan Mammadov, Kamran Babayev, Samir Mehbaliyev, Terlan Karimov, Edgar Aliyev, Ramil Karimov, Shirvani Babayev, Samir Aliyev, Yalchin Maharramov, Orkhan Alizadeh, Hajibala Huseynov, Azer Ibadov, Shahriyar Maharramov, Ramin Jalilov, Rovshan Abdulaliyev, Ilkin Ismayilov and Vugar Aliyev are accused of setting up a radical religious group, attempting to start military struggle, attacking on LUKoil petrol station in Baku, preparing terror attack on the U.S. and UK embassies in Azerbaijan.
