Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. 1392 road accidents occurred in Azerbaijan last year. Department chief of Baku Main Traffic Police Office Vagif Asadov told APA that 352 had been killed and 1534 injured in the aftermath of the accidents. Asadov said compared with 2007 the number of road accidents reduced by 9.1 percent, number of the dead by 11.7 percent and number of the injured by 11.6 percent. The majority of the road accidents occurred in H. Aliyev, Z. Bunyadov, Babek, Garayev, Nobel avenues, Aeroport road, Baku-Guba, Baku-Shamakhy and Baku-Astara highways in 2008. Asadov said driving at high speed mostly caused road accidents. 51.2 percent of the road accidents happened because of high speed last year.
Vagif Asadov said pedestrians were run over in the aftermath of 736 road accidents in 2008, 192 pedestrians were killed and 597 injured.
