Al-Qaeda member sentenced for 15 years
Salmanov has been wanted in Gusar Region since 2002 and was arrested in Dagestan and extradited to Azerbaijan in 2006. He was a member of the gang organized by Haji Jankayev, who was convicted on the article 126 (deliberate causing of serious harm to health on imprudence entailed to death of a victim), article 278 (violent capture power or violent deduction power), article 279 (creation of armed formations or groups, which are not provided by the legislation) and article 283 (excitation of national, racial or religious hostility) of the Criminal Code.
Haji Jankayev’s gang of 15 involved the citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey and Yemen cooperated with terrorist organizations, including Al-Qaeda and was trained in the camps in Georgia’s Pankisi Gorge. The gang members were accused in the terrorist attacks, illegal purchasing and bearing arms, murder of police officer Movlan Alibeyov and other grave crimes. Leader of the gang Arif Hajiyev was sentenced to life, Emil Hajiverdiyev for 10, Hamdam Mohammed Ahmed Salem, Haji Jankayev, Abdulla Abdulkarimov and Shirin Aliyev for 7, Aslan Berkov, Isa Islamov, Karanay Abdulhamidov, Arsen Gaziyev, Jembek Asadullayev, Mustafa Delibashlar, Inan Ahmed, Hayal Seljuk Husnu and Karakash Juma Shikhimam for 5 years of imprisonment. Haji jankayev is also accused by the Russian prosecution in involvement in the illegal armed formations and storage of guns. Dagestan Court sentenced him for 5 years and six months. He will be extradited to Russia after serving his imprisonment in Azerbaijan.
