Azerbaijani Ombudsman issues a statement on 19th anniversary of January 20 tragedy

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayev–APA. Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights Elmira Suleymanova made a statement on the 19th anniversary of January 20 tragedy, Press Service of the Ombudsman’s Office told APA.
The statement says that bloodstained tragedy that Azerbaijanis faced on January 20 in 1990 was gone down in history of soviet imperia as an example of aggression and mankind recognizes it as one of the grave crimes committed against its citizens.
“Soviet troops stormed Baku, killing over 130 civilians and wounding over 600 people in the densely populated city on January 20, 1990”, said in the statement.
The statement was sent to UN Secretary General, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, OSCE, and the Council of Europe, Institute of International and European Ombudsmen and other organizations.
