Baku – APA. Under the order of Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova, the representatives of ombudsman’s office visited jails #10 and 17 of Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service. Press service of ombudsman’s office told APA that the representatives also met with editor-in-chief of Azadlig newspaper Ganimat Zahid and his brother Sakit Zahidov (Mirza Sakit). Mirza Sakit expressed his gratitude to ombudsman for helping his transfer him from jail #14 to jail #10. Mirza Sakit said he had no problems with the leadership and officers of the jail. Mirza Sakit is only dissatisfied because his appeal to Narimanov district court on his early release.
Ganimat Zahid, who is held in jail #17, did not complain of detention conditions and attitude towards him. He also noted that he was learning English in the jail.
The representatives of ombudsman’s office gave recommendations to the leadership of the jails to improve the detention conditions.
