Damage on residents of blasted building in Azerbaijan’s capital publicized

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. The damage caused by the blast on the residents of the five-storeyed building in Nakhchivanski Street, 34 of Nizami district, Baku, has been publicized. Deputy head of Nizami district executive office, chairman of the district Emergency Situations Commission Arrahman Hasanov told APA that the Cabinet passed a decision to knock down and rebuild three blocks of the blasted building. According to the decision of the Cabinet, the damage is assessed as AZN 122,500. Under the decision, three blocks of the building, 45 apartments will be completely knocked down and rebuilt within nine months. The district leadership is to rent houses for the residents within this period. Chairman of the commission said they had not received the decision yet.

Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Baku Prosecutor’s Office and district Emergency Situations Commission continue investigation.

Five-storeyed building blasted in Nakhchivanski Street, 34, Nizami district on December 13. The blast destroyed two blocks of the building. 3 were killed and 5 injured in the aftermath of the blast. Gas leak in apartment #27 under repair supposedly caused the blast.

Baku Prosecutor’s Office has launched criminal case on the fact on article 222.2. (violation of safety rules during construction, negligence resulted in death) of the Criminal Code.

One has been reportedly arrested in connection with the accident.
