Baku. Viktoriya Dementyeva – APA. Azerbaijani citizen Emil Dadashov, who had been beaten by a policeman, appealed to Nijni-Novgorod Committee against Torture. Dadashov accused the policeman of xenophobia and torture, the committee told APA. The Human Rights defenders said the incident occurred on March 31, 2008. Emil Dadashov and his acquaintances were detained and brought to the police office. Five men in civil dress entered the cell, insulted Emil Dadashov’s nationality and religious belief and beat him with a stick. One of them said he hated the Caucasians and struck his face. Emil Dadashov’s three teeth were broken. Torture against Dadashov was stopped after intervention of the policemen. But inspectors of Nijegorod police department refused to launch criminal case on the fact. They said the policeman, who had beaten Emil Dadashov, was not officially at work, so his actions could not be regarded as abuse of power.
