Ombudsman appeals to ICRC Baku Office for releasing captured Azerbaijani soldier

Baku â€“ APA. Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova appealed to Toon Vandenhove, head of Azerbaijani representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in connection with the soldier of Azerbaijani Defense Ministryâ€™s military unit, Hasanov Rafig Rahman, 19, who was captured by Armenian servicemen on the line of contact in Gazakh region on October 8, 2008. Ombudsmanâ€™s press service told APA that the society was concerned over the frequent captivity of Azerbaijani servicemen and civilians by Armenian Armed Forces.
â€œI ask you to help release Raifg Hasanov as soon as possible, ensure the prevention of tortures while he is in captivity and control his state through your regional offices,â€ ombudsman said.
Ombudsman expressed her confidence that ICRC would take relevant measures and meeting would be held with Toon Vandenhove soon.
