Armenian-captured Rafig Hasanov’s letter delivered to his family: “If the son is born in my brother’s family, give my name to him”

Representatives of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) delivered letter to his family, APA Karabakh bureau reports. The soldier’s father Rahman Hasanov told APA correspondent what his son wrote: “I am in good condition. If the son is born in my brother Afig’s family, give my name to him. Let my brother Azer to live together with you and live together and friendly”. Hasanov said his son couldn’t’ read and write and ICRC wrote his letter. “The man who brought letter said that he wrote Rafig’s words”.
Spokeswoman for ICRC Azerbaijan Office Gulnaz Guliyeva confirmed the fact to APA. Guliyeva said officer of ICRC representation in Azerbaijan also attended the meeting with Rafig Hasanov. The spokeswoman said ICRC representatives met with Hasanov for two times – on October 10 and 16.

Soldier of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s military unit, Hasanov Rafig Rahman, 19, was captured by Armenian servicemen on the line of contact in Gazakh region on October 8, 2008. According to Azerbaijan’s State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, the office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Azerbaijan told the Commission that the ICRC representatives in Armenia had visited Hasanov Rafig Rahman and said his detention conditions were in line with the norms of international humanitarian law. State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons is taking necessary measures to release Rafig Hasanov from captivity.

Defense Ministry also confirmed the report that Rafig Hasanov had been captured by Armenian servicemen.
Rafig Hasanov was conscripted into the military service from Aghdam in April this year.
