Court rejects appeal of Azerbaijan-arrested deputy chairman of Independent Turkey Party

Baku. Haji Zeynalov â€“ APA. Baku Appeals Court has today considered the appeal filed against the decision of Yasamal district court by deputy chairman of Independent Turkey Party arrested in Azerbaijan in October last year Mehmet Harun Kayachi, other Turkish citizen Gokhan Demir and Azerbaijani Lankaran Safarov. Judge Sahibkhan Mirzayev presided over the process. The court told APA that the defendantsâ€™ appeal was rejected.
Yasamal district court sentenced Kayachi and Safarov to corrective work. Demir was fined of 500 equivalent of financial standard unit. The defendantsâ€™ arrest was commuted and they were released from the court room. The defendants faced charges under article 168.1 (creation of group which is carrying out activity under pretext of distribution of religious faiths and implementation of religious activities and by this illegally interfere in social order, or harming health of citizens or breaking rights of citizens irrespective form infringement, and also distracting citizens from performance of duties provided by the law) of the Criminal Code.
