Baku – APA. US-based Assembly of the Friends of Azerbaijan has organized a solemn event on "The Southern Gas Corridor and its role in Europe’s energy security" in Washington.
Azerbaijani Embassy in the U.S. told APA that the attendance of more than 20 members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, officials of the U.S. Department of State, diplomats accredited in Washington, experts of influential analytical centers and media representatives demonstrated deep interest in and strategic value of Azerbaijan.
As a part of the working visit to the U.S., President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev delivered a speech at the event and said that these are momentous days in terms of the realization of the Southern Gas Corridor and underlined the importance of continuous support given by the United States for further progress in this direction.
Addressing the event, Senator Mike Crapo, congressmen Mike Turner, Xavier Becerra, Robert Aderholt, Henry Cuellar, Leonard Lance, Gene Green, Dana Rohrabacher, Ruben Hinojosa, Matt Cartwright, Bill Cassidy, Mike Fitzpatrick and Steve Stockman, congresswomen Grace Meng, Yvette Clark and Sheila Jackson Lee characterized Azerbaijan as a close friend and reliable partner of the U.S., highly-estimated Azerbaijan’s contribution to Europe's energy security and appreciated Azerbaijan's energy policy, especially designation of revenues generated from the energy to the development of different spheres.
The same day The Hill newspaper published article on the Southern Gas Corridor by Mike Turner, Chairman of the U.S. Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Addressing the event, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to US Elin Suleymanov touched on the attention paid by the Azerbaijani government to the activities regarding the Southern Gas Corridor, continuous efforts made to turn it into reality and spoke about the new prospects of this project for the participating countries.
Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament’s Working Group on Azerbaijan-US Interparliamentary Relations Samad Seyidov, members of the group Sevinj Fataliyeva and Asim Mollazadeh spoke about the strong cooperation and partnership between the two countries, expressed gratitude to their colleagues in the Congress for supporting the development of these relations.
The solemn event, which brought together Azerbaijan’s friends in Washington, was the last in the list of the meetings that the members of the Azerbaijani Parliament’s working group on the US and SOCAR delegation held in the US.
