Deputy Director of Information Policy Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Elena Vashchenko said this while commenting on the fact that 8 Ukrainian citizens were included in the list of “persona non grata” by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry due to their illegal visits to the occupied Nagorno Karabakh. She mentioned that Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has recommendations for citizens, who are going to travel to foreign countries: “The recommendations note the importance of the legislation of Ukraine and the country, where the visit is paid. The citizens must follow these warnings. Despite our warnings due to security problem or threats to the lives of people, we are seriously concerned over our citizens’ visits to the crisis regions.”
Vashchenko also added that in 2011, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry posted recommendations in connection with visits to Nagorno Karabakh region: “Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry recommends its citizens to refuse traveling to Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. We ask our citizens to comply with personal security rules, the internal legislation and behavior norms when they are in Azerbaijan.”
One of Ukrainian journalists included in Azerbaijan’s list of “persona non grata” addressed Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry to clarify the matter.
