Following pressure from Azerbaijan, the issue of recognizing the "Armenian genocide" was removed from the agenda of the Israeli Knesset, Haaretz newspaper writes.
It was noted that Israeli officials assured the Azerbaijani side that the issue of recognizing the so-called "Armenian genocide" has been removed from the Knesset agenda.
According to an Israeli source, the vote, proposed by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, was blocked by Benjamin Netanyahu after Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Azerbaijan, contacted the Prime Minister's Office on behalf of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Haaretz writes that the Israeli government then informed Azerbaijani officials that it had removed the issue from the Knesset agenda and that it would therefore not be put to a vote during the last plenary sessions held before the summer recess last week.
