Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Egypt is operating under tightened security measures due to the ongoing clashes in the country, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Egypt Shahin Abdullayev told APA. He said that all necessary security measures were taken due to the incidents that began two months ago. Noting that the diplomatic mission is working as usual, the ambassador mentioned that Azerbaijani diplomats’ families have already left the country.
Abdullayev noted that we are regularly keeping in touch with the rest of Azerbaijanis in Egypt and recommend them to appeal to the embassy if necessary: “Phone numbers have been given to them in advance, “hotline” is available. Women and children have already been evacuated from Egypt. We have 24-hour contact with Azerbaijani citizens in Egypt. No Azerbaijani has been killed or wounded”.
Asked about the number of Azerbaijani citizens registered at the embassy’s consulate department Abdullayev said that there is some difference between the number of the registered Azerbaijani citizens and those who are living here: “Maybe 150 have been registered, while actually their number can be 30-40. A citizen comes to the country, addresses us when he/she faces problem and is registered. Then he/she ends his/her study and leaves the country without informing the embassy. On average, the number of the registered people is always 50-60. The actual number of our citizens in Egypt can be determined after they are brought together”.
