The two countries have strategic partnership and serious cooperation in various fields and the sides are continuously putting forward their will for further development of these relations,” chief of Socio-Political Department of Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov told APA commenting on the U.S. Helsinki Commission’s briefing in Azerbaijan on July 16.
Hasanov said that there are attempts to exaggerate the importance of this event and raise it to the level of “hearings” of the Congress and these are attempts of certain internal political groups to advertise themselves: “They wanted this event to be held in the format of hearings at the Congress. They even made serious efforts to achieve the participation of congressmen and senators who are members of the aforementioned committees and recently visited Azerbaijan. However, they didn’t achieve it. This is their failure and indicates non-serious attitude of the US towards the opposition.”
Hasanov noted with regret that the representative of National Council that brings together leaders of opposition parties, functionaries, as well as representatives of pro-opposition NGOs and media outlets had made an absurd, groundless, biased speech and similar statement at the event: “I want to say that two criticizing speeches were delivered against Azerbaijan, one by the member of National Council and the other by representative of Armenian Assembly of America. At the same time, both of them disseminated criticizing reference. The National Council and antinational elements represented there, who distort Azerbaijani legislation, approach to the ongoing processes in the country from their own subjective political interests, attempt to realize subjective political claims have started concrete action to stain Azerbaijan’s international prestige simultaneously with Armenians. They visit different countries and seek political support, financial sources, try to determine the fate of the Azerbaijani people abroad without taking into account their opinion. Today, the past of the authors of the fictitious appeal of the National Council, which raises absurd claims against Azerbaijani authorities and tries to cast doubt on the right of Azerbaijani President to run for presidency for the next term, is dark enough and must be investigated legally.
Hasanov says today, the Azerbaijani government, politicians, influential public organizations, media, well-known intellectuals, activists of Azerbaijani Diaspora try to expose the anti-Azerbaijan actions of Armenia and Armenian lobby, achieve imposition of sanctions on the aggressor country: “Purposeful activity for repealing unjust Section 907 imposed by the US against Azerbaijan is continued resolutely. Addressing the "hearings" of the Helsinki Commission, the representative of the National Council demanded imposition of new sanctions on Azerbaijan. This fact is an obvious example of anti-Azerbaijan character of the people gathered at the National Council. The claims of the National Council representatives are nothing but attempts to cast doubt on the conduct of presidential elections transparently and democratically. No external force will make its plans on the cooperation with such political groups. Every visit and antinational actions of the representatives of the National Council will accelerate the failure of this group and exposition of its members before the society”.
