West considers existing line of contact in Ukraine starting point for negotiations

Ukraine and European countries have called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between Russian and Ukrainian troops, APA reports.

This was stated in a joint statement by Ukrainian and European leaders.

Ukraine and European countries consider the current line of contact of the troops as a starting point for the negotiation process.

"Ukraine must be in the strongest possible position before, during and after any ceasefire. We must increase pressure on the Russian economy and military industry until Putin is ready for peace. We are preparing measures for Ukraine to fully use frozen Russian assets," the statement said.

It was noted that European leaders will meet at the European Union Council meeting and in the "Coalition of the Willing" format this weekend to discuss support for Ukraine.

It should be noted that the statement was issued on behalf of the President of Ukraine, the British Prime Minister, the German Chancellor, the French President, the Italian Prime Minister, the Polish Prime Minister, the Finnish President, the Danish Prime Minister, the Norwegian Prime Minister and EU leaders.
