The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM), operating under the Public Relations Department of the Turkish Presidential Administration, has denied claims circulating on social media and some media outlets that “criminals from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria are being sent from Europe to Türkiye by plane”, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.
The center stated there is no decision for Türkiye to accept third-country nationals from other countries.
It was noted that it is not possible to extradite foreigners who have committed crimes or do not have legal residence rights to Türkiye. Türkiye only carries out procedures regarding its own citizens in accordance with international law and on an individual basis.
The statement also emphasized that the persons spreading these claims have been reported to the Office of the Prosecutor General with the accusation of “openly spreading misleading information to the public.”
