Gripen fighters can be provided to Ukraine at the expense of frozen Russian assets, said Swedish Defense Minister Poul Jönsson in a statement to SVT TV channel, APA reports.
"We are currently considering the possibility of using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine," Jönsson emphasized.
The cost of one Gripen E aircraft is approximately 85 million US dollars. Thus, the total cost of 100 aircraft planned to be sold to Ukraine will be 8.5 billion dollars.
It should be noted that the day before, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson signed a memorandum of intent in the field of defense with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Kristersson said that Stockholm plans to sell 100-150 Gripen E fighters to Ukraine in the near future.
This step, according to experts, will significantly strengthen Ukraine's air defense capabilities and give a new impetus to the common security of Europe.
