Georgia’s opposition United National Movement Party (UNM) has decided to file a constitutional lawsuit against the ruling “Georgian Dream” party, said one of the leaders of UNM Levan Bejashvili at a briefing, APA’s local bureau reports.

According to him, the process is being initiated at the request of international partners and the legal community.

Bejashvili accused the ruling party of creating legislation that persecutes dissenting protesters, public activists and organizations, TV channels, and parties.

He said that the filing of the lawsuits will be crucial for the future litigation in the Strasbourg court.

It should be noted that the UNM was founded in 2001 by former President Mikheil Saakashvili. The Georgian parliament recently appealed to the country's Constitutional Court with a claim to ban the activities of three opposition parties, including the UNM. The court accepted the lawsuit and sent it to the plenum for consideration.
