The Georgian parliament has approved Mamuka Mdinaradze as the new head of the State Security Service, APA reports, citing Georgian media.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili expressed confidence that Mdinaradze will further strengthen the country’s security system.
Last month, the former head of the State Security Service, Anri Okhanashvili, announced his resignation. He intends to take up a role as adviser on national security issues to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
The Prime Minister stated that the new head of Georgia’s State Security Service would be Mdinaradze, who currently serves as the executive secretary of the ruling party, Georgian Dream.
