A total of 7 million 200 thousand US dollars and 136 thousand lari in cash were seized during searches conducted yesterday at the homes of former high-ranking officials in Georgia, APA’s local bureau reports.
This was stated at a briefing held at the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG).
In addition to the large amount of cash, 198 pieces of valuable jewelry and watches, expensive paintings, several thousand pages of documents, 50 mobile phones, and 119 electrical devices were also confiscated.
It was noted that the searches were carried out in Tbilisi, Dedoplistskaro, Vani, Chokhatauri, and Borjomi districts, in 24 apartments and residential houses belonging to former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, former head of the State Security Service Grigol Liluashvili, former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze, former Deputy Minister of Economy Romeo Mikautadze, Mikhail Chokheli, Vano and Tornike Parkauli, Sandro Liluashvili, and their family members. About 230 employees from the Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office and the State Security Service participated in the search operations.
Currently, the State Security Service, together with the Investigation Department of the Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office, is actively examining and processing the seized documents and electrical equipment.
It was noted that the true origin of the confiscated funds is being determined, after which further investigative and operational measures will be planned based on the processed information, and appropriate legal actions will be taken against the individuals involved.
