The return of Mikheil Saakashvili from the clinic to prison is a completely logical and correct decision, said Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze in a statement to journalists, APA's local bureau reports.

According to him, no one can argue against the decision.

"I think this is a completely normal decision. A person who has no health problems and is serving his sentence should, of course, be in prison like other prisoners," Sarjveladze added.

Saakashvili's mother, Giuli Alasania, said that her son had not undergone a full medical examination for more than a month and was not informed that he would be transferred to prison.

His lawyers also said that they were not informed in advance about the decision to return the ex-president to prison. The United National Movement Party, founded by Saakashvili, protested against the transfer of the former head of state to a penitentiary.

It should be noted that Saakashvili was returned to prison yesterday from the Vivamed private clinic in Tbilisi, where he was receiving treatment. He had been held under medical supervision at this hospital since May 2022.
