The head of the Georgian government administration, Levan Georgoliani, met with a delegation led by the US State Department's Senior Advisor, Jonathan Askonas, APA's local bureau reports, citing the government's press service.
The meeting discussed the steps taken by the Georgian government to strengthen the country's transit and connecting functions.
Georgoliani presented the US side with information on the significant investments made in Georgia to develop the mentioned function in railways, highways, and port infrastructure. He noted that the Georgian government is not satisfied with the current level of relations with the US and reaffirmed its readiness to restore the strategic partnership from a clean slate and on the basis of a specific roadmap.
The parties discussed Georgia's position on the "Trump route". The possible positive impact of the route on the region in terms of creating security guarantees for cargo transportation by the US was noted.
During the conversation, the importance of the Trump administration's efforts to establish peace in the region was emphasized. Georgia's role in the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia was also positively assessed.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili and Acting US Ambassador to Georgia Alan Purcell.
