Accusations that Georgia is circumventing sanctions against Russia are false, said Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, APA’s local bureau reports.
According to him, it has been proven several times that Georgia is not evading the sanctions.
“The European Union itself has also stated this and has not found a single fact confirming the use of Georgian territory to evade sanctions,” the speaker added.
Papuashvili noted that while there are risks of attempted smuggling in Georgia, the control system is so well-established that this has not been possible.
Note that in a letter addressed to the European Commission, members of the European People’s Party claimed that Georgia was helping Russia by circumventing sanctions.
