Former Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has been placed under bail in the amount of one million lari (367,6 thousand US dollars), APA’s local bureau reports.

The Tbilisi City Court made this decision.

The decision sets a 30-day period for the payment of the bail.

Based on a motion from the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia, Garibashvili’s passport has also been confiscated, and he has been prohibited from leaving the country until the completion of the investigation. Garibashvili attended the court hearing. His lawyer, Amiran Giguašvili, stated that the person he defends agrees with the charges.

Note that today the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia filed charges against Garibashvili. He is specifically accused of legalizing a large amount of income. This criminal act is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 9 to 12 years.

Former Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has been charged, APA’s local bureau reports.

Georgia’s Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze announced this at a briefing.

According to him, Garibashvili is accused of legalizing income obtained in especially large amounts.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia will appeal to the court to apply a preventive measure in the form of bail in the amount of one million lari against Garibashvili.

Note that on October 22, Garibashvili was interrogated at the Anti-Corruption Department of the State Security Service of Georgia. He admitted that he had received illegal income over the years. Recently, during searches conducted in the homes of Garibashvili and other former high-ranking officials, more than 7 million US dollars, expensive jewelry and wristwatches, paintings, several thousand pages of documents, 50 mobile phones, and 119 electronic devices were seized.

Recall that I. Garibashvili held the position of Prime Minister of Georgia in 2013–2015 and 2021–2024. On February 1, 2024, he was elected chairman of the ruling “Georgian Dream” party, and on April 25 of this year, he resigned from his position and announced that he was leaving politics.
