The European Union Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, spent the night in the bathroom during the large-scale Russian airstrike on Kyiv, the ambassador posted on her Facebook page along with a photo of the bathroom, APA reports.
Maternova said that she spent the night of October 22, when the large-scale Russian airstrike took place, in the bathroom of the hotel she was staying at in Kyiv.
“The sirens were sounding non-stop. Explosions were shaking the walls. …And I had only one thought - Enough. Enough of this war,” the ambassador wrote in her post.
The diplomat emphasized that the Russia-Ukraine war “is taking too long and taking too much force.”
“There are new victims in this war every day. Every night - new attacks. Ukraine is resisting, but it is tired and wounded. Negotiations and meetings are planned outside the country. From Kyiv, they seem endless,” she noted.
The ambassador also said that the European Union remains a reliable partner of Ukraine: "We understand how serious this moment is. We are not turning our backs. We are looking for all possible ways to help Ukraine stand firm and achieve a just, lasting peace."
