Italy is not ready for a Russian attack, APA reports, citing The Guardian.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto told reporters that Italy is "not ready for a Russian attack" at a time when tensions between Russia and NATO are rising after drones violated Polish airspace.
Crosetto said that Italy is not prepared to respond to a military attack. He explained this by the lack of sufficient investment in the defense sector over the past 20 years.
"I have been saying this for a long time. I think our task is to put the country in a position where if any madman - and I mean anyone, not just Putin - decides to attack us, we can defend ourselves," the minister said.
Italy, along with NATO countries, has agreed to significantly increase defense spending over the next decade, despite the discontent of the country's population.
