Bochorishvili: The claim that Georgia has suspended the EU accession process is false

For someone to say that Georgia has stopped its process of joining the European Union is disinformation and manipulation, this claim is fals, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili said in the "Imedi Live" program of the "Imedi" TV channel, APA 's local bureau reports.

The minister said that Georgia has tried not to use European integration as a tool for political struggle.

"A manipulation is being used to claim that Georgia has suspended the dialogue. Brussels suspended the dialogue with Georgia in June 2024 and accused the Georgian government of this in the fall," Bochorishvili added.

The Foreign Minister also commented on the possible suspension of the EU's visa-free regime with Georgia. According to him, if Brussels makes this difficult decision to punish the Georgian people for democracy, the responsibility will lie with Brussels.

Bochorishvili also said that the claims that Ukraine and Moldova are ahead of Georgia are untrue:

"If we talk about the development of the country, Georgia significantly surpasses Ukraine and Moldova. Georgia is not behind any country. When Georgia submitted its application for membership in the European Union in 2022, it was the leader among the associated partners."

It should be noted that the Georgian government announced on November 28 last year that it would not bring EU membership negotiations to the agenda until 2028. The government stated that Georgia would be more prepared for EU membership in 2030. It recently became known that the EU made the decision to suspend Georgia's membership process on June 27, 2024.
