"The development dynamics of Azerbaijan's mining industry have continued in a positive direction in recent years," Ilgar Guliyev, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Geology of Baku State University, told APA.
He stated that expanding geological exploration, reassessing existing mineral deposits using modern methods, and gradually bringing them into economic circulation, particularly in Nakhchivan, Karabakh, and East Zangezur, are of great importance for the future development of the sector.
"The efficient use of the rich mineral resource potential of these territories could make a significant contribution to expanding the mining industry's production and export capabilities, attracting new investments, developing the processing industry, and creating new employment opportunities in the regions."
According to the geologist, one of the main positive changes compared to the previous period is the emergence of a more systematic approach to geological research and the assessment of the economic efficiency of mineral deposits.
"I believe that the application of modern technologies, compliance with environmental safety requirements, and the use of international experience will create conditions for further strengthening the role of Azerbaijan's mining sector in the non-oil economy."
