New rating of diamond-producer countries made public

Baku - APA-Economics. Russia became the world’s largest diamond producer in terms of volume last year, turning out 35.139 million carats at a value of $2.675 billion and an average price of $76.12 per carat — up 11 percent on the year, Interfax reported Thursday, citing Kimberley Process’ website.

Botswana ranked second (22.9 mln carats) adn Congo ranked third (19.249 mln carats). Next countries are Canada (10.795 mln carats), Zimbabwe (8.502 mln carats) and Angola (8.328 mln carats).

For worth of produced diamond, Botswana ranked first which amounted to $3.902 bln. Russia earned $2.675 bln, Canada - $ 2.551 bln. Congo is last.

In 2011, 124 mln carats of diamonds were produced, and amounted to $14.406 bln, up 26% from a year earlier.
