Oettinger: â€œSigning of gas contract by Azerbaijan and Turkey is good for Europeâ€

Baku. Habil Suleymanzade3h â€“ APA-Economics. â€œOn Tuesday, Azerbaijan and Turkey agreed terms for the transit and sale of gas in Turkey from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijanâ€ said the EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger at the international conference in Brussels.

According to him, it is good for Europe, as gas from Azerbaijan will arrive on the European Unionâ€™s border and be distributed within Europe throughout the EU internal market. But it is not sufficient, and it does not change our focus: â€œWe want to see sufficient dedicated pipeline capacity that links Azerbaijan to Europe. And this pipeline capacity needs to be operated within a strong legal framework compatible with international law. This is also the preference of the President of Azerbaijan which he set out in a joint Commission-Azerbaijan declaration signed in January 2011 together with President Barrosoâ€, he said.
