Turkey ends gas deal with Russia

“We wanted they to reduce the prices, but they rejected. That’s why we ended the deal”, said the minister.

Taner Yildiz noted that, natural gas rose 39% during past 29 months: “That’s why, we’ll reconsider the ended deals. If we don’t see significant reduction, we’ll not prolong the contracts”.

Note that, Taner Yildiz said on Thursday the country might terminate its contract with Russia unless it obtains a sufficient price reduction.

Turkey has take-or-pay contracts to buy up to 30 billion cubic metres of gas annually from Russia but has been buying less.
